Assessment

Students will be assessed at the end of each half term on the activity that they have completed. This will be done in line with the school policy. Feedback to the students will be continuously given verbally during lessons. A students grade, e.g 4a/5c will be recorded in their planner along with the activity they have been assessed in, with a target to try and progress to the next level.

Please note that students’ levels may fluctuate depending on the activity. They may be given a 3a for Rugby by a 5C for dance.

What it leads to in KS4

All students will continue to study PE with the aim of gaining a GCSE qualification at the end of Year 11.

The PE department offer BTEC Sport Level 2 in year 11 as an option but it has recently been made compulsory as a GCSE (9-1) for year 10 onwards:-

GCSE PE Year 11 – This course also encompasses both practical and theory to give students a more in depth knowledge about PE. The theory papers contribute to 40%, coursework 10% and practical assessment of 4 sports is worth 50% of the final grade. Theory components will include; factors affecting fitness, how different systems in the body work, such as the skeletal, muscular and cardiovascular systems, along with different types of training methods and principles which will be examined at the end of the course. They will also be assessed on their practical ability across a range of games and activities, which includes their skills, tactics and knowledge and application of the rules.

GCSE PE year 10 (9-1) – This course also encompasses both practical and theory to give students a more in depth knowledge about PE. The theory papers contribute to 60%, coursework 10% and practical assessment of 3 sports is worth 30% of the final grade.
